WHAT PROGRAMS DOES ASCENSION MEDIA PARTNERS OFFER AS A NONPROFIT?
We offer three primary programs at this time: 1) Fiscal Sponsorship, 2) Mentorship, and 3) Marketing your film project. Please review our website and if you still want more information, contact Danielle Jones for more information on how we can help you!
WHAT IS FISCAL SPONSORSHIP?
Fiscal sponsorship refers to the practice of non-profit organizations offering their legal and tax-exempt status to for-profit groups or businesses typically, with a project or program, engaged in activities related to the sponsoring organization's mission.
HOW CAN MY FILM PROJECT BENEFIT FROM HAVING ASCENSION MEDIA PARTNERS AS A FISCAL SPONSOR?
With a tax-exempt status, a film project may be eligible for more grants and tax-deductible donations. Ascension Media Partners (AMP) extends an opportunity for you to tell your financial supporters: “All funds donated to my project are tax exempt. Plus, when I work with Ascension Media Partners, I also have resources, and access, to expert support for my project!"
DOES HAVING A FISCAL SPONSORSHIP MAKE ME A NONPROFIT?
No, having a nonprofit as a fiscal sponsor does not make you a nonprofit. Only the IRS can make determinations on tax-exempt rulings for individuals.
WHAT IS THE MINIMUM BUDGET AMOUNT FOR MY FILM PROJECT TO BE CONSIDERED?
The minimum budget amount to have your project considered is $25,000. Projects under $25,000 will be reviewed by our Project Selection Committee and considered on a case by case basis.
WHAT TYPES OF PROJECTS ARE ELIGIBLE FOR FISCAL SPONSORSHIP?
The types of projects that are eligible for Fiscal Sponsorship include any form of visual communication that delivers information. Types of projects that will be considered include short films, feature films, music videos, documentaries, Bible studies, among others. HOW DO PEOPLE DONATE TO MY PROJECT?
We are glad you asked! The process for Fiscal Sponsorship is simple:
1) You approach others for financial support for your film project;
2) The donor decides how much money they can contribute to your project;
3) The donor sends the donation to AMP, marked to support your project;
4) The donor receives a tax exempt, donation statement from AMP, allowing them to claim a tax-exempt donation for their contribution, and;
5) You receive money from AMP based on your funds raised, your budget and the agreement you have signed with AMP for your project!
WHEN ARE APPLICATIONS DUE?
Fiscal Sponsorship applications are due on or before the first Tuesday of each month.
WHAT IF I MISS THE DEADLINE?
If you miss the application deadline, your application will be reviewed the following month.
WHAT IF I NEED TO ADD SOMETHING TO MY APPLICATION AFTER I SUBMIT IT?
The fiscal sponsorship application must be completed as fully and completely as you are capable of providing the information and it must be provided at the time of submission. Additional and/or supplemental information will not be considered.
Updated information will be considered if you had no knowledge of the information, or you were unable to make a best educated guess regarding the information at the time of the submission, or the information is truly an update that carries significant impact on the project after the time of submitting the application.
If you simply realized that your application was incomplete after submitting it, please notify us and submit a new application. If it is before the first Tuesday of the month, it will be considered for the current month, otherwise, it will be reviewed the following month.
The application process is, in form and effect, as a whole, part of your application. We want to see how well you “perform” in applying for the assistance of a Fiscal Sponsorship. This is very important to future donors. Please understand, you are expected to adequately and effectively, complete this application with the information requested in a professional manner, as expected from any Filmmaker, Producer, Director or other same or similar representative.
WHAT IS THE APPLICATION FEE AND HOW DO I PAY IT?
The nonrefundable Fiscal Sponsorship application fee is $100 nonrefundable application fee. You can pay the application fee by going to our donation page and selecting “Fiscal Sponsorship Application Fee” under the Designation drop down menu.
HOW LONG AFTER SUBMITTING MY APPLICATION WILL IT TAKE TO GET A DECISION?
Your application is considered complete once the AMP team receives the application and the $100 application fee. Applications are reviewed by the Project Selection committee and the Board of Directors before a project is approved or declined. Applicants will be notified within four weeks of the application deadline.
WHAT IS THE ADMINISTRATIVE FEE FOR FISCAL SPONSORSHIP?
We are excited to share that 95% of donations for Fiscal Sponsorship are given back to the film project! AMP only retains a 5% administrative fee for all Fiscal Sponsorships in addition to expenses that may occur to perform the process of collecting and moving the money forward according to the agreed upon contract. Examples of these types of fees may include, bank account fees, required audits, and/or non-administrative fees.
WHAT OTHER TYPES OF FEES MAY BE DEDUCTED FROM MY FISCAL SPONSORSHIP?
Our donor processing partner, DonorBox charges a % of each donation. AMP is not responsible for percentages charged or changes in DonorBox’s fee structure, however, donors have the option to cover the donation fee at checkout. Expenses of this type are passed through at cost, no additional expense is created by AMP or added to or collected by AMP.
WHAT IF I NEED HELP COMPLETING MY APPLICATION?
If you need help to complete the application, due to personal and/or individual limitations, you are allowed to request help from another individual to assist you in the process of completing this application: A) If you use another individual to assist you in completing this application, please advise us of this and, B) please advise us of any special needs we may be able to provide in assistance to you.
HOW DO I KNOW MY APPLICATION SUBMISSION WENT THROUGH?
Once you have answered all required questions, AMP will always make best efforts to acknowledge receipt of applications. If you do not receive an acknowledgement within three business days of sending your application, please feel free to email the AMP team to inquire regarding the submission.
HOW DO I GET THE DONATED FUNDS TO USE FOR MY PROJECT?
Once your project is approved by our Project Selection Committee for Fiscal Sponsorship, our team will open a business bank account for your project and you will receive information on how to access funds.
DO I NEED A BUSINESS ENTITY IN ORDER TO RECEIVE FUNDS?
Yes, you need to have a business entity. The five most common types of business structures are: sole proprietorship, partnership, C corporation, S corporation, or limited liability company (LLC).
WHAT STAGE OF MY PROJECT CAN I APPLY FOR FISCAL SPONSORSHIP?
You can apply for Fiscal Sponsorship at any stage of your project, from development to post production. Projects that are completed can receive Fiscal Sponsorship for covering their distribution costs.
WHAT IS THE BIGGEST MOVIE MARKET?
According to Statista, “Data on leading film markets worldwide ranked by the number of tickets sold showed that China was the largest market in 2020, with 536 million movie tickets sold that year.”
I SEE THAT YOU HAVE MENTORS ON YOUR WEBSITE, WHAT WILL THEY HELP ME WITH?
We believe that to be successful, you need to build a good team around you that has skills you may not have - that’s the purpose of our Mentorship program. Our mentors have expertise in the areas of film production, entrepreneurship, finance, fundraising, human resources, leadership, marketing and much more. Our volunteer mentors, like our staff, are dedicated to working side-by-side with producers, directors and filmmakers to touch lives by sharing the good news of Jesus Christ through media.
HOW DO I BECOME A VOLUNTEER MENTOR?
Our team is actively recruiting experienced, executive level volunteer Mentors for our projects. If you are interested in volunteering a minimum of 12 hours per year (one hour per month) to help Christian filmmakers with their projects, please contact Danielle Jones to schedule an interview. Please note that our Mentors are volunteers and will not receive payment for any volunteer work.
